ROMNEY

The Australian Romney evolved from the Romney Marsh which originated in the Romney Marshes of Kent, England and was first imported into Australia in 1872.

A large framed dual purpose sheep, it is known for its heavy cutting fleece, good lambing percentages, with a high proportion of twins being produced.

Crossed with other breeds, the Romney produces an ideal lamb mother with an exceptionally strong constitution.

Wool is demi lustre, 30-37 micron and very soft to handle.

Numbers have declined in recent years due to the over supply of carpet wool, however, the south island of New Zealand still abounds with Romneys.
